Trump was at the White House
The White House was placed on lockdown this Saturday after gunshots were heard around the presidential residence. However, the lockdown was lifted around 6:45 p.m. Eastern Time. According to Fox News, at least 30 shots were heard. U.S. President Donald Trump was inside the White House at the time of the incident.
Minutes before the shooting, the Republican president, who was unharmed, had been negotiating an agreement with Iran. In a post published on Truth Social shortly before the incident, Trump stated that an “agreement has been broadly negotiated and is awaiting final approval between the United States of America, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and several other countries.” Trump also said he had spoken with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and described the conversation as very productive.
Shooting at Trump-related event
The incident comes less than a month after a Trump-related event at a hotel in Washington was targeted in a shooting. On that occasion, Cole Tomas Allen, 31, the alleged gunman, was arrested and charged with attempted assassination of Trump. It was the first time Trump had attended the event as President of the United States.
As loud bangs echoed through the venue, guests attending the White House Correspondents’ Association gala dinner rushed to hide under tables.
