A catastrophic workplace accident claimed the lives of two young Vietnamese nationals in Kusatsu City, Shiga Prefecture. The incident occurred on Tuesday morning (26th) at a regional public works project focused on water infrastructure. The two men were instantly overwhelmed by a sudden discharge of heavy liquid cement during a technical operation meant to seal and decommission an obsolete agricultural water pipeline.
The local police department identified the victims as Lu Thanh Van, aged 27, and Nguyen The Phuong, aged 25. Both individuals resided in the Taisho-ku district of Osaka City and were employed in Japan under the government's official Technical Intern Training Program. Investigators established that the team was carrying out maintenance inside a narrow 1.5-meter-wide pipe at a subterranean depth of nearly 12 meters when the concrete mass engulfed them.
